How We Got Started

The Alcannabist was essentially born in 2021 when Doug Holladay approached his brother Joe about his debilitating migraine headaches. Doug’s general quality of life was struggling, and he was afraid that his successful web design and marketing business was starting to languish due to frequent downtime.

For years Doug had spent countless hours working with Drs to find any solution possible, including myriad NSAIDs and Prescription drugs, that were not only ineffective, but had horrible side effects that left him suffering from conditions such as: fatty liver disease, GI distress, nausea, heart palpitations, anxiety, trouble sleeping, etc.

When he approached his brother about a possible CBD based treatment, Joe was skeptical it would work. In his mind CBD products had horrible efficacy, based on accounts of friends and family who had tried them, and the conventional knowledge at the time, which was that without THC, CBD products just didn’t work. Doug was reluctant to use products with THC because he lived in a state where its use was illegal. None the less Doug asked Joe to put his 10 plus years of experience in cannabis product formulation to use in finding a solution. Joe and Doug worked together for around a year, testing different formulations until they finally found a formula that worked. Containing the perfect blend of terpenes and other constituents to greatly increase the receptor binding power of CBD and significantly boost its bioavailability. Even they were surprised by the results.

As a chronic migraine sufferer, Doug’s headache frequency went from 300+ headache days a year to getting a headache only once every few months. His migraine frequency went down as well from 1-2 weekly migraines, to having a migraine fewer than 2-4 times a year.

Almost everyone they gave the product to had similar astounding results. It was then that Doug suggested they bring this and other CBD based products to market to help others suffering from Migraines and other headaches, anxiety, general pain, sleep deprivation and other ailments. They officially formed the company The Alcannabist on July 6th 2022.

Shortly thereafter they were approached by the CEO of Royal Biotek, David Oswald about acquiring the rights to sell their Migraine treatment. He had heard about the efficacy of their Migraine product through mutual friends that had sung its praises. So impressed with their process and aptitude in their fields, he acquired both the Alcannabist, and Rocket Web Development and Design as subsidiaries of Royal Enterprises, and offered them both positions as COO and CMO respectively.
